Zen

Just a quick one to get some thoughts down before I fall asleep. I had a really good night tonight. Not in the sense of having a few drinks with friends or hearing some good music (neither of those things happened) but I managed to feel like I was one with my camera. Read More »

The simple truth.

In this past year at University, I’ve been doing a lot of voluntary work. Hauling my ass to London three times a week to cover shows with no expenses paid and a pat on my back for the trouble, spending hours painstakingly making sure album and gig reviews adhere to certain style guides, sacrificing vital hours of uni work just to get it all done. It’s all part of the process, obviously – but that doesn’t mean it’s any fun. Read More »

I’ve been thinking about what I want to apply myself to when I get back to work. I’m treating this summer as a time to rest and recuperate and gather my thoughts for the next year of University, so I would hopefully have some sort of ‘battle plan’ when I return to the educational fray. This year, University will be the priority, but I want to use what I learn there to start tying things together for my future. So this, in a way, is a mission statement for the year ahead to help me focus my creativity into achieving that. Read More »

Experimental Mobile Update!

I finally caved and bought a tablet. After much careful consideration and harassment of a few knowledgable friends I threw my strictly Microsoft/Android sensibilities to the wind and went for the third gen iPad. Now follows the tale of a stranger in a strange interface… Read More »

Playing Catch-Up

POSTED IN Portfolio, Uncategorized | TAGS : , , July 18, 2012

I’ve been woefully lax on any type of writing lately, and I’ve realised why. I feel like any semblance of wit I’ve had is gone entirely, flitting between game and music writing and wearing myself pretty thinly on both subjects. Writing about two subjects is something a lot of people do and do well, as a lot of writers I know and respect are very capable of doing. I admire these people but at the moment I don’t think I can manage it. I’d love to do be able to do it, but I consider writing more of a discipline than a talent and I just don’t feel disciplined enough to cover two subjects adequately. Read More »

Suspiciously Accurate

So Hong Kong masters of tiny plastic actors Hot Toys finally unveiled the Black Widow action figure, and it’s insane. Whilst not quite as impressive as the Thor or Iron Man models of the same line, it’s packed with details and could well be a freakishly shrunken version of Scarlet herself. It even captures that grim “I told you to stop leaving your shit on the floor” expression down to the pursed lips and terrifying eyes… Read More »

Review: Lollipop Chainsaw

Cheerleaders, zombies, and chainsaws, oh my!

This… sparkly new release from acclaimed professional weirdo Suda 51 bears little introduction, seeing as you can get a pretty accurate estimate of what the game contains from the lacklustre cover art. There is a cheerleader. She has a chainsaw. At some point, zombies and goths get involved, and that’s about it. Read More »

Review: Harley Quinn’s Revenge (DLC)

“It’s the DLC Arkham City deserves, but not the one it needs right now”

Harley Quinn’s Revenge is the solitary story based DLC for Rocksteady’s incredibly successful Arkham games. After the rather conclusive and definitive ending of the full game, I’m not sure that anyone in particular was begging for any more Arkham City, but regardless, the developer have delivered – so what, if anything, does this latest part of the story add? Read on, beware of Arkham City spoilers… Read More »

UCA Farnham: Why we definitely don’t need MORE of the catering department.

POSTED IN Portfolio, Uncategorized | TAGS : , May 10, 2012

I just saw on the student union’s Facebook page that the University and Catering Department intend to turn the top bar into an expansion of their current bland grasp on the SU facility.

I say – screw that. Read More »
